With the soon to be addition of baby #4 we’ve been doing a little room swapping in our house. Owen is moving into our guest room, baby girl is taking his old room and the girls are staying as is sharing a room. And when I say ‘Owen is moving…’ – well he actually already did! About 5 minutes after we told him he’d be getting this new room (with his own bathroom), he ran upstairs and started carrying his stuff over. So funny!! With three sisters to contend with, we’re hoping to make this a space he can grow into, hang out with his friends, and be all BOY. But his room right now is far from being done. It’s a mish mash of a guest room that was never finished and his stuff. Time to get to work!
Below is the design I have so far….I’m sure once I start pulling it all together and have Owen put in his own thoughts, things will change. But so far I’m loving the direction it’s taking….
First off we need to paint and we’re sticking with the color that we have throughout all main areas of our house – Benjamin Moore Classic Grey. It’s a great light neutral grey. The room has hardwood floors so a rug is a necessity. I love the Pottery Barn Kids Mercer rug in navy to anchor the space and this metal bed from Living Spaces is an awesome steal for only $250. For bedding I’m sticking with a neutral color palette of white and grey, with the focal point being these awesome vintage indigo pillows. A lumbar pillow in Peter Dunham Starstruck will add in a pop of green.
His desk is similar to the one shown and is quite special to us. His Grandpa had made it for my husband when he was a child, and then recently refurbished it and painted it grey for Owen. We love it and it’s the perfect space for Owen to do homework. I love it paired with this industrial style chair, bulletin board and desk lamp. Another spot that I think is important is a comfy reading chair. He’s really gotten into reading more and more, which of course I want to encourage. I think it’s nice to have another spot in his room to get cozy with a book besides his bed.
My favorite decor in Owen’s room are the sports pennants he has always had hanging up. His Daddy collected them as a child, so we have all of these awesome pennants from football teams in the late 70’s and 80’s. Ebay has some great options if you want to hunt down some yourself.
I’ll be sure to keep you all posted as the room evolves and comes together! For now, sources for the this initial design are listed below.
