Miss Emery turned one month old on Sunday! We have loved every single second with our sweet baby girl. She is such a mellow, happy baby and really only cries when she’s hungry. She’s quite content to look around, like she’s just taking in her new world, and I simply can’t get enough of her newborn snuggles!! I’m so glad we got these photos taken, this newborn time really is so fleeting and I’ll treasure these pictures forever!
We had the best day shooting with Vanessa Lentine. She made it such an easy and fun process and I’m absolutely IN LOVE with the photos she got of Emery and our family. Having to prep your family, yourself and your house one week postpartum is no easy task, but the photos are worth it a million times over! For any of you who will be doing your own newborn photos soon, I wanted to share a few tips that helped me get through them…
First off, plan ahead! I started looking for newborn accessories and photo props a few months before she was born. My favorite place for accessories and photo props for Emmy is Etsy, seriously such cute stuff. I’m absolutely in love with the lace wrap and bonnet she’s wearing in the first couple of pics. And the alpaca wrap headband is so delicate and sweet! And if you follow me on Insta then you may remember the sweet swan garland I got a while back….I knew it would find a way into her photos somehow! See below for sources.
I also had a good idea of what we’d all be wearing before she was even born. I really wanted the whole shoot to feel light, airy and fresh. I received the Little Unicorn swaddle blanket as a gift at my shower and I knew the color palette would be perfect for photos. Whenever I do family photos I always start with one piece…usually something I want to wear or something for my girls. This time the jumping off point was the swaddle blanket. I knew I wanted Amelia and Charlotte i these tutus, and when I found this lavender top for me I knew it would be perfect! Roomy enough in the tummy for my postpartum belly and I just love the eyelet detail. The boys always come last! Ha! Sorry but it’s true. Blue, white, khaki and neutral colors are always my go-to colors for my handsome guys.
For the photo shoot itself…it helps if your baby is kept warm. If your house is cool, crank up the heat a bit. It will help them stay sleepy. I also had a sound machine on during the photos of just Emery. Again, helped her to stay calm and sleepy! I also appreciated Vanessa’s patience while I fed her and changed her. A happy baby allows for better pictures!
Most importantly though, try to enjoy it! Photoshoots can be stressful and hectic, especially with a large family. I’m sure there were plenty of outtakes! But it helps to keep things light, there were times we all got the giggles when trying to position ourselves, and you know what? I think those ended up being my favorite shots!
