Sugar the bunny, our newest furry addition to our family, has gotten quite a lot of attention at our house! I’ve also received a few questions about her on social media, so I figured I’d corral all the answers together into a post!
What type of bunny is she?
Sugar is a Holland Lop.
Where did we get her?
A family in our community breeds bunnies as a small business/hobby for their kiddos. Once we started looking into getting a bunny of our own, in became clear we should get our bunny from them! The baby bunnies are handled from birth by both adults and children, so they are very friendly and socialized! We got on the ‘bunny list’ and new a litter would be arriving right around Emery’s arrival! Turns out they were born on the SAME DAY as Emery. So Sugar and Emery share a birthday 🙂
Where does she live? Inside or outside?
Sugar lives mainly outside in her hutch. She’s fine outside as long as it doesn’t go above 90 or below freezing. I’m not sure we’ll ever have to worry about the below freezing, but it can get into the 90’s in August/September so on those days we’ll bring her in the house. The lady we got her from suggested keeping her inside in an enclosed shower. She’s contained, it’s cool and makes for easy clean up!
Where did you buy the hutch? And what other supplies do you need?
We bought the hutch on Amazon! Of course, right? Because what can’t you get on Amazon! We all decided Sugar needed a two story hutch with room to roam and found this one on Amazon. It arrived quickly and my husband was able to put it together pretty easily. We also bought a food dispenser, water bottle and pet bedding on Amazon. We picked up Alfalfa from our local pet supply store and at 6 months she’ll begin eating Timothy Hay instead. All of the supplies have been great, with the exception of the water bottle. It leaks sometimes and we can’t figure out why sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn’t!
And lastly I always get asked….do the kids actually play with her?
Yes! I was worried about that too though. I thought she might be a big hit for the first week or so and then the novelty would wear off. But nope! Not yet anyway. She comes out to play at least 2 times a day. The kids hold her all the time and they follow her around the backyard.
We really do love Sugar and she has been such a fun addition to our household! Hopefully I’ve answered all of the basics, but if you have a question please don’t hesitate to reach out!
