Right before Emmy was born we did a mini-remodel of our kitchen. We made a few adjustments to our island, Carrera marble countertops went in, and simple oversized subway tile backsplash replaced outdated tile. We also finally got the counter stools I reaaalllly wanted and have been wanting for a long time….the Serena & Lily Rivera stools in Fog. And let me tell you these babies were worth every pretty little penny we spent on them.
I truly think they are a timeless design that will last us a long long time. They are casual enough for our laid back family lifestyle, but still make the statement I was looking for in our kitchen. I love the mix of rattan and woven materials. We chose the fog color and it’s a great neutral…I also love this natural version, but with our floors (which I’m dying to lighten up), I thought the fog was a better option!
Plus they are COMFORTABLE. The seat is cushy enough to not hurt your tush, and the back is nice to lean into while I’m sipping my coffee! I find myself working on my laptop in the kitchen a lot while the kiddos are at school and Emmy is napping. Coffee, candle lit, blogging…it’s pretty much my ideal morning 🙂
Now, they were a splurge. We knew we could get something less expensive, even Target has some awesome stool options. And when we know we have so much more to do to the house, and so many more furniture pieces to purchase, going the less expensive route was tempting! But it came down to a few things…
1) I knew I absolutely LOVE them and have for a long long time. They are not a new style and I feel like they’ve stood the test of time.
2) They are good for kids. They wipe clean and with the back no one will be taking a header (or it’s less likely anyway!)
And 3) The island really is the focal point of not only our kitchen but our house! It’s visually what you see the most in our kitchen/family room area, and it’s also the place people gather time and time again. I knew I wanted it to look amazing!
So even though we might not have a coffee table at the moment, and our kitchen table desperately needs an upgrade…it’s okay. Adding to our home one coveted piece at a time is way better then filling it with items that I don’t absolutely adore. There’s nothing I love more then dreaming up and planning for new designs in our home. Ask my friends, I’ve got some big ideas, lol. Most of which my husband says ‘Yeah that would be great’ and just laughs because they require knocking down walls and adding rooms. Not exactly in the budget at the moment. Ha! But we’re in this house long term…so you just never know what will happen 🙂
By the way this post is NOT sponsored. I just love these stools…and all of Serena & Lily actually!! Hands down they are the brand I turn to most for inspiration and for decorating our home. If you’re local their Newport Beach store is amazing! Or find their other locations and shop online here.
