Is there any better Christmas tradition then decorating the tree? We decorate ours as a family every year and it’s definitely one of my very favorite evenings together. Everyone does their tree a little differently, so I thought it would be fun to showcase how we do ours!
FRESH of ARTIFICIAL?
It’s artificial! Ugh, honestly I still can’t believe we now have a fake tree! We had a few years of very crispy trees….and then 2 years ago, the day before Christmas Eve, I had a meltdown about our crispy droopy tree and wanted to go out and get a new one. Brad had to talk me off the ledge!! Ha!! So the following Christmas he kindly reminded me of that evening and out we went for our first artificial tree. I did (and still do) cringe a little at the thought, but we actually do love it. Ours is the 9 foot pre-lit tree from Costco.
Our tree is a mix of ornaments we’ve collected over the years and homemade treasures from the kiddos. It’s a family tree for sure and not overly ‘decorated’ …and exactly how I love it!! I usually add a couple new ornaments each year. This year I picked up two beautiful swans from Anthropologie. And my mother inlaw buys the kiddos a new ornament each year. This year she gifted them these adorable houses that light up from Pottery Barn. The kids love them so much they’ve been in their rooms so far, but may eventually make their way onto the tree!
I’ve changed the garland up year to year – and this year my eye caught this gold wood bead garland from World Market. In years past I’ve used ribbon to either wrap around or tie on, but this year it was left off! I bet it’s back next year!
My sister is a violinist and plays almost every year at the Sacramento Nutcracker. She gave each of our kiddos a Nutcracker ornament a few years ago when we came to the show. It’s ornaments like these I truly treasure!!
What are your tree traditions? I’d love to hear in the comments! And as always, thanks for reading!
