Even though it’s already January 6th, we are juuuust easing into the New Year over here. With my kiddos out of school until next week, we’re in vacation mode a little longer then usual. And while I love a lazy morning, I’m itching to get back to a some schedule and routine. These lazy mornings however have given me the opportunity to reflect on 2016 and make goals and plans for 2017.
The tradition of making a homemade gingerbread house goes WAAAAY back in my family. I’ve done one every year since I was a child, and so when Owen was born I knew I would have to step up and learn how to do it myself. With lots of of help and advice from my Mom, plus a few new twists of my own, our gingerbread house tradition was born.
We’re just a day away from Dec 1st, so let the countdown to Christmas begin! One of my most absolute favorite holiday tradition is Christmas cards! Designing ours, sending them out, and most of all receiving ones from family and friends!
BABY #4 is on the way!!
Yep, we are joining the ranks of those crazy parents who have 4 kids, and we couldn’t be more thrilled. We kept it mum’s the word for quite a bit, and let me tell you it wasn’t easy!! But I was able to do a genetic testing blood draw at 12 weeks and we wanted to be sure all was a-ok with our little babe until we told the kiddos. Thankfully the test came back all clear and we broke the news to our kids right after…they were completely shocked and soooo excited!! Especially my sweet Amelia. She has been kissing my belly morning and night.
And because of this early genetic testing we were also able to find out the gender….
I don’t know about you guys, but we are on major countdown to Halloween in our house. I think this may be the most excited I’ve seen them all yet! I always try and get everyone into their costumes a few days early so I can snap a few pics ahead of time. That way on Halloween I already know we’ve got some good photos, and I don’t have to worry about getting too many individual ones when they are all so excited to get trick or treating!
A couple months ago we had an adorable new family move in down the street. To welcome them to our AMAZING neighborhood I headed to my go-to gift basket spot…World Market. And I say ‘basket’ loosely, there are so many containers to corral goodies! I like to pick a general theme and for this one I went with an easy pasta night. I found a great wire handled basket and added bucatini pasta, fresh sauce, an olive oil dipping sauce, wooden spoons and dish towels. I also always like to add something fresh…flowers, a small plant, and this time a big ol’ bunch of basil straight from our garden.
Salt Creek Beach in Dana Point has quickly become one of our favorite spots for a picnic. There’s a large grassy hill overlooking the ocean and it’s an ideal spot to eat, enjoy the view, and not worry about sand in your food. Makes it much easier with kids! Then once everyone has full tummies it’s a quick walk down to the sand. Last weekend we teamed up with Beachmate for the perfect Sunday dinner picnic at the beach.
