10 Questions with Liz Joy

I’m so incredibly excited for this post today!! Welcome to the first installment of a new series titled “10 Questions With…” where I’ll be chatting with some of the amazing women I’ve had the opportunity of ‘meeting’ is this online world. Let’s face it, the Instagram and social media world can be a little odd sometimes, right?? But what I’ve realized over the years is that it all comes down to connections. I absolutely love to connect with other like minded women…to hear their stories, about their goals, and their everyday lives. Within this world there are so many women who’ve also turned their passion and creativity into an amazing, thriving business. Most often it’s with a baby (or two) on their hip. This series is just a fun little way to get to know some of these women better.

For my very first “10 Questions With…” I’m so incredibly honored to be chatting with Liz from Pure Joy Home! I’ve followed Liz on Instagram for a loooong time and have always loved her easy style, beauty tips and home decor. She is a major rockstar mama boss…with two sweet babes she not only runs a successful lifestyle blog but also manages the fastest growing team in Young Living. Her passion for a clean, healthy and happy home shines through in everything she does. Most importantly though, Liz is one of the most genuine people I’ve come across on social media. She’s a girls girl…she’ll tell you where she got that awesome necklace, offer advice on motherhood issues, and cheer you on in your latest business venture. She’s kind, funny and radiates joy. So without further ado…here are 10 Questions with Liz!

10 QUESTIONS WITH LIZ JOY

What is the first thing you do in the morning?

Hug my kids! They wake me up in the morning and walk over to my bedside to tap me. I open my eyes and give them a big squeeze and usually pull them up to lay with me for a minute. What could be better than that?!

As a mama, I know mornings can sometimes be tough to get everyone organized and out the door. Do you have any tips or routines that help you and your kiddos have a smooth morning?

Love this question! The first thing I notice is whether I’ve had a good night’s rest. It’s tempting to stay up late and catch up on work or watch the next episode of True Detective on the couch with your hubs, but if I go to bed earlier, I’m MUCH happier in the morning! Making lunches at night before is HUGE and keeping breakfast simple with cereal, granola bars, and a fresh glass of orange juice so minimal mess is made in the kitchen. Also, always having a mug of coffee next to me, hot or not, is my best friend 🙂

What 3 things do you always take with you when leaving the house?

Besides the important things like keys and phone, my Thieves hand purifier, lavender infused chapstick, and baby wipes to clean hands and messes!

What do you like most about running your own business, and what do you like the least?

Oh man I love having my own business so much, not having to answer to anyone is the best thing in life, like ever. I love the hustle and seeing the fruit of my labor take shape with an inspired leader on my YL team or a mom showing me a new outfit she feels great in that she found through me. The part I like least is never having a start or end time. My husband is joining me in the business in a couple of weeks, and that’s one of the first rules we are going to establish.

How do you manage the forever coveted work life balance, do you set any specific boundaries?

There is no balance, no matter what anyone tells you. At least I feel that way. BUT things that have helped me are having my kids go to school so I can work during those hours, it’s amazing how much you can get done in those hours, and then being present when they are home by putting my phone and computer AWAY. Then I usually take it back out and work at night, but I get a good chunk of family time in when they are with me and I feel really good about them not seeing me on my phone 24/7.

How do you stay motivated in what can sometimes feel like a very saturated world of lifestyle/home/mama bloggers?

I just stay in my lane and almost put blinders on. I don’t love scrolling anymore because it makes me feel like I should always be doing more, so what I try to focus on is my own community and serving them. It makes a HUGE difference to get into that mindset and once you do, I truly believe slow and steady organic growth will happen, and you’ll get all you poured in back.

You are such an inspiration to me and my business, can you tell us about someone who inspires or influences your work?

Oh Elizabeth that is so sweet! You are an inspiration to me as well! I’m lucky to have made great friends that inspire me daily. So many women in Young Living, Casey Wiegand, Jessica Garvin, Jami Nato to name a few, and my favorite bloggers Liz Adams, Monika Hibbs, Studio McGee…all these women are such genuine good people that do amazing work both on the screen and behind it 🙂

Thank you for introducing me to essential oils! I’m quickly becoming obsessed. If you had to pick only one oil to use everyday, which would it be?

Frankincense! It has the power to center me in my spirit and heart, and it’s also the fountain of youth for skin!

What binge-worthy TV shows are you watching now?

True Detective!

What is the last thing you do before going to bed?

Roll frankincense on my face and serve as the little spoon to my hubs.

Thank you Liz for taking the time to answer these 10 questions!! Friends, if you don’t already follow Liz or read her blog….get on over there now! Here’s where you can find her:
