The recent launch of Studio McGee photo presets gave me the excuse to photograph my own living room! Interior photography has quickly become a passion of mine and it was so fun to flex my creative skills again in both shooting the space and editing the photos using Studio McGee’s new set of presets. A few things have changed in this room since the last time I shared photos and although it’s still a work in progress, I’m still excited to have some updated images of the space. And don’t worry I’ll be sharing living room sources in an upcoming blog post, but always feel free to reach out with questions if something catches your eye.
Back to the presets….they are geared specifically to interior shots, which I don’t think I’ve come across before. Most presets are geared towards the wedding and lifestyle industries, and because interiors can prove quite tricky with lighting I was very curious to see how these would handle colors. Especially whites! I purchased both the desktop and mobile version presets and went to work. For reference the full room photos below are shot on my Canon 5d Mark III using my 35mm prime lens. And guess what, I took the detail shots with my iPhone!
I played around with all of the presets on the desktop version, but I found that for these specific set of images I preferred the “Classic” preset. Each lighting and design situation will be so different, so I have no doubt I’ll be using the others soon. For the iPhone photos I used a variety of presets. Some were one click edits, and others I made minimal adjustments to after setting the preset. Most often I played with shadows and contrast, and I only had to adjust white balance slightly on a few images.
What I love most about these presets is how the colors remain true. Wood tones, whites, warm and cool tones are only enhanced with the click of the preset, but not altered or changed. This is so important for interior photos!
And because everyone loves BEFORE and AFTERS…
I thought it would be helpful to show the before, one click edit and then the final image with any additional edits I made on my own.
