2022 was a big year of buying things for our new home and a few things stuck out to me that truly helped our new build house begin to feel like our home…
Counterstools – one of our biggest splurges, but gosh I love them! They are sturdy and comfortable for the kiddos, but have the aesthetic I wanted too! We have them in the chestnut color, which is a rich honey brown. I love how they warm up our all white kitchen. Plus the cushions are done in “life friendly” fabric and they are completely wipeable. Our kids eat breakfast at these stools every morning and we don’t have one mark or issue with them yet!
Pillows – This pillow was a clear favorite purchase this year. I love pairing it with this blue floral too. Honestly I still have many more pillows to purchase for this home, but they can be expensive so I’m happy to add them over time!
Decor Details – A big part of what makes a house a home is the little decor pieces added over time. This blue crock has become a favorite of mine in our kitchen, and sprinkling these frames around the house has added a personalized touch. I love filling them with black and white snapshots or professional photos we’ve had taken over the years!
Entertaining items – After almost a year of not having a place to host friends and family, I was suuuper excited this year to start inviting people over! This excitement lead to some more entertaining purchases….beautiful glassware, monogrammed cocktail napkins, and this floral cake stand are highlights.
Guest room – Speaking of entertaining and hosting, we were also thrilled to welcome our first guests to our TN home. Getting the guest room ready was fun with a four poster bed and these beautiful scallop linens. I’ll share the full room soon, still on the hunt for curtains!!
Artwork – I’m really trying to be more intentional with the art in this home! I’m searching out a few more unique pieces and I love this sketch of a french village. I’d also love to add some original artwork.
Outdoor furniture – This set is perfect for our covered back deck and has already gotten a ton of use! So far it’s holding up beautifully even though we don’t have it covered (gasp!) It’s not an overwhelming size so if you have a smaller space it’s a great option!
And now, we have a long list for items to purchase in 2023! As much as I’d love to have our home “finished” – I also realize I make such better decisions if I purchase more slowly and intentionally. There are plenty of areas in our home that continue to be blank…but what I thought might go there initially, has now already changed. It really does take living in a home to know what works and what doesn’t! So cheers to be patient! I’ll share more as we go along!
