My Work: Nelson Family

Starting up this little photography business of mine is making me step outside my comfort zone. Like 1000%. This right here is my FIRST EVER in-home lifestyle session (not including my own kids, lol). And yep, I’m not going to lie, I was totally nervous! I questioned if I’d be able to get ANY decent shots. Would I be able to direct them into natural poses, AND get my camera settings correct? But I figured there’s only one way to succeed at a photography business…and obviously that starts with actually taking photos of OTHER people 🙂

So off I went, to my first ever in home lifestyle session. Butterflies in my tummy. Maryn opened the door, greeted me with the sweetest smile and hug….and I felt instantly safe, confident and excited. Her daughter, Mika, shyly smiled at me and played a few notes on her piano. Baby Major was just waking up from his nap and I got to see him all swaddled up, making me seriously long for the days when baby Emmy was swaddled! The thing that I instantly loved about our in-home session was the relaxed pace. No rushing needed. Major had his bottle while I checked the light, and once everyone was ready we started with photos on their master bed. ALL WHITE BED, I might add. So basically a photographer’s dream.

And you know what? It went so smoothly! We flowed through family photos, individual photos and various family combinations. We even got their sweet dog, Charlotte, in a few shots. She was a total natural 😉

I had the BEST time photographing Brian, Maryn, Mika and Major. Sweetness through and through. I left the session feeling energized, optimistic and knowing that I’m doing EXACTLY what I should be doing.
